VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recently wrote an article in which he highlighted the historical significance of the Dien Bien Phu victory on May 7, 1954, as well as outlining four key tasks to accomplish the goals set for national construction and defence 65 years after the world-breaking event.

PM Phuc wrote that the Dien Bien Phu Victory was considered the result of the right and ingenious leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh and the crystallisation of the spirit of determination. It was a victory of the entire people and army on the path of fighting for peace, national independence and unification.

Sixty five years have passed but the historical and practical values of the Dien Bien Phu Victory still resonate, considered as the motivation and strength for the entire Party, people and army on the path of renewal, integration and development, as well as the construction and defence of the socialist Fatherland.

The Government leader underscored that the Victory is one of the resplendent pinnacles and glorious feats in the history of fighting invaders, deserving to go down in history as Bach Dang, Chi Lang, Dong Da victories in the Ho Chi Minh era.

The Dien Bien Phu Campaign lasted from March to May 1954 under the command of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Vietnam’s victory on May 7, 1954 led to the signing of the 1954 Geneva Accords in which France agreed to withdraw its forces from its colonies in Indochina.

The victory of the resistance war against the French colonialists, culminating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign was a victory of patriotism, the indomitable and resilient will of the Vietnamese people, which was accumulated through thousands of years of history.

It was a victory of patriotism, the Party’s proper and creative people’s war policy, the power of the great national unity, the loyal combatant solidarity among the Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian armies and peoples, and support from international friends.

The great historical meaning of the Dien Bien Phu Victory clarified the truth that a small country could defeat every strong invader if it has a true leading Marxist Party with the right political and military policy and the upholding of the nation’s strength and the support of the international community.

The spirit of this great victory was continued and upheld by the army and people in the following resistance war against the US imperialists for national salvation, achieving another glorious victory to completely liberate the South and reunify the country, making great achievements of historical significance in the cause of national renewal, integration, construction and defence.

Amid the challenges in the new context, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on the entire Party, people and army to continue to stand united and strive to achieve its goals, with four key tasks.

The first is to persistently pursue the goal of national independence and socialism, effectively carrying out the Party’s comprehensive and concerted reform policy.

The second is to continue improving the operational efficiency of the entire political system, upholding the power of the great national unity in the new condition, and inspiring the ambition to grow up by the Vietnamese nation.

The third is to build a solid and modern all-people national defence posture which lays the foundation for safeguarding the nation.

The PM also emphasised the need to pay regular attention to building the people’s armed forces, with a revolutionary, elite and modern people’s army and public security as the core, contributing to successfully fulfilling the national defence task in the new situation.

On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory, the Government leader expressed his gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh and predecessors, as well as the army and people nationwide for their dedication and sacrifices in the struggle for national independence and reunification.
