The single entry visa fee has been cut from US$45 to US$25, while a three-month multiple-entry visa, which previously cost US$95, now costs just US$50.
A Ministry of Finance representative said the new regulation is based on content on the Law on Entry, Exit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam which took effect at the beginning of this year and is intended to boost the tourism sector.
Vu Khac Liem, Deputy Director, Tax Policy Department, Ministry of Finance said: Compared with some neighbouring countries, we have some advantages. Indonesia’s single entry visa is 30USD, Thailand is around 35USD while ours stands at 25 USD.
The number of international arrivals in the first 11 months reached some 7 million, a year on year decrease of 4% despite the increase in recent months. This is due to the decline at the beginning of this year and at the end of 2014. The visa fee reductions are hoped to attract more tourists in the time to come.
