This information was announced by Ton Duc Thang University on February 16. The university is the only representative of Vietnam in the list of 10 Southeast Asian higher education institutions with many research projects published on the ISI, according to Web of Science data as of December 31, 2019.
Accordingly, ASEAN countries have published a total of 63,445 research projects on ISI journal. The first positions in the top 10 are representatives of Singapore, with National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, National Institute of Education (under Nanyang Technological University). The next four representatives are Malaysia’s universities: University of Malaya, University of Putra Malaysia, University of Kebangsaan Malaysia, University of Sains Malaysia. Meanwhile, Ton Duc Thang University is ranked eighth position. The next positions are Mahidol University and Chulalongkorn University of Thailand.
Established as a private school in 1997 by the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, Ton Duc Thang became a public school in 2008 after being taken over by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. It has two campuses in Ho Chi Minh City.

In three years (2016, 2017, 2018) the Ton Duc Thang University published 2,372 works on ISI journal, lower than the Royal Chulalongkron University (6857) and Mahidol University (7391) of Thailand; and much lower than Nanyang Technological University (20,049); and National University of Singapore (24,074).
The university has set a goal of catching up with the National University of Singapore in the next 7 to 10 years in terms of the number of published works.
