VTV.vn - Vietnamese boxer Truong Dinh Hoang successfully defended his WBA Asia Super Middleweight title following his knock-out (KO) victory against Thai rival Yuttana Wongda in Manila, the Philippines, on February 15.

Hoang headed into the fight as the underdog, with 31-year-old Wongda having played 39 professional bouts with 14 wins (10 KO) compared to just two for the Vietnamese star (2 KO).

However, Hoang shocked everyone in attendance as he only needed two rounds (of the total 12 rounds) to knock out the Thai challenger, thus becoming the first Vietnamese boxer to concurrently hold the WBA Asia and WBA Asia East belts.

Earlier on October 20, 2019, Hoang produced a KO win against Lee Gyu-hyun (Republic of Korea) after 10 rounds in his first professional bout in Hanoi to be crowned the WBA Asia East champion.

Truong Dinh Hoang currently holds both the WBA Asia and WBA Asia East Super Middleweight belts.

Entering the first round on Saturday, the Vietnamese fighter promptly stunned Wongda as he proactively attacked, constantly throwing powerful punches toward the Thai competitor.

The second round witnessed retaliatory attacks from both sides. However, with a series of strong blows, Hoang finally floored Wongda. The Thai rival then struggled to stand up but could not resist against Hoang’s next attempt.

This was Hoang’s second KO victory after his first two fights as a pro.
