VTV.vn - The Vin University (VinUni), invested by conglomerate Vingroup, was officially inaugurated on January 15 in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

Located at the Vinhomes Ocean Park urban metropolis in Hanoi’s Gia Lam District, it is the first university in Vietnam to announce itself as featuring elite training. The tertiary education facility is also the first private non-profit university in the country.

Speaking at the event, Deputy PM Dam emphasised that investment in science and education is a lucid vision of every country. Amidst difficulties, the State has tried to devote much attention and investment to science and education. Compared to other countries with the same level of development, Vietnam's education has improved a lot, he said.

In recent years, all economic sectors have been encouraged to invest in education and science. Up until now, 25% of tertiary education facilities are private schools, with many operating under a large scale and having a lot more modern facilities compared to public universities. In particular, a number of successful businesses in the field of manufacturing and other businesses have invested in education, university and scientific research, including Vingroup.

Deputy PM Dam hopes that the spirit and responsibility will be replicated to help Vietnam have more and more successful businesses, organisations and individuals to invest in education and science. It is not only good for businesses themselves but also proves their social responsibility for the future of the country, he affirmed.

VinUni has been invested with VND6.5 trillion from Vingroup, of which VND3.5 trillion has been spent on infrastructure construction and VND3 trillion for scholarships and financial support for students, as well as acting as compensation for losses in its operation for the first 10 years.

Covering 23 ha, VinUni’s campus features nine building that are capable of providing the most optimal teaching and learning experiences for 3,500 students, with modern facilities meeting five-star QS rating by the world's leading educational accreditation Quacquarelli Symonds.

VinUni leaders aim to get the facility in the top 50 best young universities in the world in close cooperation with the two leading universities in the world, Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania.

In its first ever academic year of 2020-2021, VinUni expects to welcome about 300 students enrolled for three main majors, namely, Business Administration, Health Sciences, Engineering and Computer Science.
