Born and raised in a poor rural area, Pham Thi Luong was born with a physical disability. Despite her parents’ efforts, taking her to various hospitals in search of orthopedic doctors, all the specialists shook their heads, as Luong's condition was a rare form of flaccid paralysis that could not be cured. Accepting her fate from a young age, aware that she was different from other children her age, instead of feeling self-conscious or sad, Pham Thi Luong always reminded herself to find joy in life: "Being sad brings me nothing but pity".
With her optimistic spirit, sharpness, and independence from a young age, Pham Thi Luong developed a special interest in business at the age of 13. She bravely asked her mother to let her try selling goods. From that moment, her mother had great confidence in her, constantly reminding her to be independent, not to rely on her family, and not to become a burden to society. Although her family was not wealthy, Pham Thi Luong was fortunate to have the love and support of her parents. This became a great source of motivation, shaping her character to always strive, be eager to learn, face challenges, and explore the world with a kind heart.
Starting from a small street stall, Luong gradually nurtured bigger dreams, always hoping to one day have her own small shop at the market. Her mother was her constant companion, carrying goods to the market to sell alongside her daughter throughout those years. These were the first building blocks that would later make Pham Thi Luong a successful businesswoman later in life. The more difficulties she faced, the harder she tried. Many times, life did not "smile" at her, but Luong became even more determined to learn to read and write, using her remaining functional body parts—her two hands and her mouth, to hold a pen and write. This opened the door to knowledge and a brighter future for her. "First, I became independent and self-reliant, no longer dependent on others, and second, I was able to help many people, especially those who are still young, to rise above their own challenges. That’s what brings me the greatest happiness and joy", Luong shared.
With her positive energy and optimistic spirit, Pham Thi Luong has spread joy to many people. In her simple, modest home, despite its humble condition, she has become a refuge for those facing difficult circumstances. Children come to her for care and guidance, and Luong acts as a second mother, helping them grow with love and patience. "I didn't give birth to them, but I have very obedient children, and they all call me 'Mother'". The appearance of these children in the program opened up many touching stories about Luong's journey of sharing love.
Althoughshe still has a long way to go, Pham Thi Luong has proven to life that she has the strength and determination to build a good life for herself and share her love with those around her. On the show Love Station, she brought with her a bright sunflower painting created with her mouth, as a statement that "physical limitations cannot restrict human potential."
With her warm heart and compassion, Pham Thi Luong has shown that people with disabilities are far from useless; instead, they can take control of their lives and inspire others who are less fortunate. The gift from Love Station will further empower her on this humanitarian journey.
Everyone faces their own challenges, but with determination and faith, dreams can come true. Pham Thi Luong's inspiring journey will be featured in this week’s episode of Love Station, with the theme "Seeds of Sharing," airing at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 12, 2024, on VTV1.
