The programme, which will last until May 8, calls on all organisations and individuals across the country to send mobile text message reading ‘DACAM’ to 1409. Each mobile text message will add VND20,000 (US$0.86) to the fund.
Money can also be donated to the bank account 0031101234005 of the Fund for Vietnam AO/Dioxin Victims at the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank – Thanh Xuan branch.
The association is aiming to collect around VND2 billion (US$86,000) from this year’s programme.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, VAVA President said that since it was initiated in 2011, the annual event has raised more than VND20 billion (US$860,000) for AO victims.
In 2019 alone, it collected nearly VND1 billion (US$43,000), which has been used to construct houses and present gifts to these disadvantaged people.
On the occasion, the association presented certificates of merit to four collectives and four individuals in recognition of their assistance to AO/dioxin victims in 2019.
