At the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh reaffirmed that this project is one of the biggest dioxin contamination cleanup projects in the world, with around 500,000 cubic metres of contaminated soil to be treated.
The scope of this project at Bien Hoa Airport is four times larger than the project implemented in Da Nang. Vietnamese and US agencies estimate that the workload needs over 390 million USD and will take a decade to solve.
Also on Thursday, United States Agency for International Development and the National Action Center signed cooperation to remediate the consequences of toxic chemicals on the environment. The goal is to support people with disabilities in the provinces sprayed with toxic chemicals, with a budget of about 65 million USD.
