Chemroad Journey, flying the Cayman Islands flag, was stranded on June 10 at a location some 73 nautical miles from Phan Thiet city and 28 nautical miles south of Phu Quy Island when it was travelling from Singapore to China with 27 crewmembers on board.
The vessel, with its loading capacity of 33,500 tonnes, was carrying some 700 tonnes of fuel oil and 300,000 tonnes of chemicals.
After hearing the information about the stranded ship, the Ministry of Transport promptly instructed the Vietnam Marine Administration and the National Search & Rescue Committee and relevant bodies to jointly implement rescue activities.
From June 21 to July 1, nearly 510 tonnes of oil on the vessel were pumped into its aft tanks to lighten it. The ship owner also asked for permission to pump 8,000 tonnes of chemicals to Sun Mercury ship.
