The memorandum facilitates the reopening of South Korea’s market labour to Vietnamese workers in accordance with the Employment Permit System. It will have no restrictions in terms of the number of workers. Any workers with certificates in the Korean language and that meet the job requirements have a chance to work in South Korea.
Doan Mau Diep, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said: We’ll not let workers from 15 cities and provinces who stayed illegally in South Korea affect the labour co-operation of the two countries. Vietnam and South Korea discussed measures to lower the number of workers staying after the visa expiry date and increase the quota of Vietnamese workers in South Korea.
The two countries agreed on the quota of migrant workers based on the reduction of Vietnamese labourers working illegally in South Korea. Since 2004, 75,000 Vietnamese labourers have worked in South Korea earning average salaries of 1,000 to 1,500 US dollars per month. Vietnam plans to send about 3,500 more workers to South Korea in the coming time.
