VTV.vn - The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) in Soc Trang province on June 18 granted VND200 million (US$8,690) to the Khmer-Vietnamese Association to support Khmer people of Vietnamese origin in Cambodia affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vice Chairman of the VFF – Soc Trang chapter Lam Dung Liem said that the funding is the heart of local authorities and people to share difficulties with Vietnamese-origin Khmer people amidst complex developments of the pandemic.

Soc Trang is currently joining hands with the nation in implementing the dual targets of pandemic prevention and control and economic development and recovery, and calling for support from organisations and individuals inside and outside the country for the fight against the pandemic.

Sim Chy, head of the Khmer-Vietnamese Association, expressed his profound gratitude for Soc Trang’s assistance, which, he said, will encourage Vietnamese-origin Khmer people and tighten the traditional friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam in general and Soc Trang in particular.

He added that with the support of Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities, the association has provided help for more than 6,000 households in Cambodia.
