Ships under 15 meters to be converted for offshore fishing

The Directorate of Fisheries announced that ships shorter than 15 meters can now be converted for offshore fishing.

Before, only ships that had more than 90 horsepower were allowed to fish offshore. However, there's still no detailed guidance on the procedure and method of conversion, so shipowners haven't started to renovate their ships just yet.

The Department of Fisheries of Phú Yên Province will be working with the local department of agriculture and rural development to give instructions to fishermen on how they can make their ships eligible for offshore fishing.
