VTV.vn - Since 2010, Roots of Peace – a US NGO - has made a significant contribution to improving the livelihoods of local residents in landmine-contaminated sites in Vietnam, with its Mines to Vines project.

Since 2012, Trương Thị Thúy in Cam Lộ District, Quảng Trị Province has been farming black pepper with the support of Roots of Peace - an NGO led by Heidi Kuhn.

"Roots of Peace helps us with fertilizer and farming techniques. Thanks to their support, my family’s living standards have improved.", said Truong Thi Thuy, Resident, Quang Tri Province

Black pepper has been chosen as the main crop of the Mines to Vines projects run by Roots of Peace in Quảng Trị Province, which aims to replace old minefields with bountiful pepper trees.

Since 1997, Roots of Peace has been giving support to residents in former battlefields. With its Mines to Vines vision, Roots of Peace has made efforts to help residents in Quảng Trị with sustainable livelihoods.

Such efforts as Roots of Peace’s project in Vietnam are helping alleviate war consequences and build a better life for future generations.
