VTV.vn - Binh Dan Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated the first robot-assisted surgery centre in Vietnam, allowing doctors to introduce and apply advanced technologies in minimal-access surgery to the benefit of patients.

Although this is a great achievement and already one of the medical highlights of 2016, the bottom line is, that it is still the skill of the surgeon working with the instruments that ensures the best result.

Robot-assisted surgery is an extension of laparoscopic surgery. This is a minimal-access approach that allows surgeons to perform operations using scopes and instruments inserted through several small incisions.

The robot adds enhanced vision and control to doctors.

The robot- assisted surgery method has already been applied at Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics in 2015 and has assisted surgery on 150 patients.
