At the Robocon field, understanding the structure of the playing field and regulations surrounding robot starting positions is essential to devising effective strategies and optimizing robot functionality.
According to Ngo Van Loc, Head of the Referee Committee for Robocon Vietnam 2025, the center line on the field does not belong to either the offensive or defensive zones. A robot, including its protective base, is considered fully in the offensive zone only once it has entirely crossed the center line into that zone. If any part of the robot, such as its base or an arm, remains in the defensive area, it is not yet officially in the offensive zone.
A defensive robot can remain in its designated zone and pass the ball to its teammates for a shot. However, such an action will not count as a scoring play.
A team is considered to have completed the 8-second rule when the ball-controlling robot fully enters the offensive zone within 8 seconds.
The ball-controlling robot can be either the one carrying the ball or the one that receives a pass from a teammate. This robot must remain entirely within the offensive zone for the entire 8 seconds. The 8-second regulation is enforced to ensure that attacking teams make offensive moves promptly, avoiding delays or stagnation during the match.
As for the defensive robot, it is only permitted to perform defensive actions within its defensive zone. It is not allowed to cross into its offensive zonein order to execute any form of defense.
