The rice sector's major concern now is to gain more Chinese licenses to export into this market for Vietnamese rice producers, in addition to turning rice farming into Vietnam's primary agricultural produce. 22 Vietnamese rice exporters have gained these licenses, while 9 other businesses are still awaiting results in hygiene and safety assessments. China has released 30 criteria for assessment, which focus on production conditions, origins, resources, labour and food safety.
The Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development will shift its focus from quantity to quality from now on.
