VTV.vn - A QR code linking information about Mother Suot, a hero during the American resistance war, has been unveiled at a historic wharf associated with her in the central province of Quang Binh.

The initiative was launched by the youth union of Bao Ninh Commune, the home of Mother Suot, whose full name is Nguyen Thi Suot.

During the years from 1964 to 1966, Mother Suot, who was then over 60 years old, operated thousands of boat rides carrying soldiers and weapons across the Nhat Le River even during the fiercest US bombardment.

She was honoured with the Hero of the People’s Armed Force title in 1967. One year later, she was killed during an American air raid.

Mother Suot is a symbol of not only heroic Vietnamese women but also the heroes and martyrs who have sacrificed themselves for national independence and freedom.

According to local officials, anyone with a smartphone can scan the QR code to learn about the life of Mother Suot and the wharf where she began her boat rides.

The project is expected to help bring the local historical and cultural site closer to the community and tourists.
