During the peak period, about 7-800 tonnes of lychees are transported to China each day through the Lao Cai border gate. Lychee is currently in high demand in the Chinese market.
Despite being highly sought after, lychees from Vietnam are usually exported to China through smaller channels, resulting in price fluctuations. This is due to Vietnamese lychees still not having a recognizable brand.
Farmers are now encouraged to follow modern green standards to produce quality lychees. In Bac Giang province, lychees that meet Vietgap standards are expected to reach 40,000 tonnes which is 40% of the province's total output.
With determination from both farmers and the authorities, lychee exports should bring more good news later this year. Road infrastructure is also being upgraded to aid exports.
