Prime Minister praises Vietnamese team after victory over Jordan

VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has praised the Vietnamese players for having fought confidently, bravely and wholeheartedly to overcome Jordan and become the first team to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Shortly after the Round of 16 clash between Vietnam and Jordan concluded on January 20 night, the Government leader made a phone call to Vice President of the Vietnam Football Federeation (VFF) Tran Quoc Tuan to congratulate the entire coaching staff and players of the national team.

He highly appreciated the resilient fighting spirit of the players, stating that their relentless efforts helped the Golden Dragons see off a strong opponent and persuasively advancing to the last eight of the continental showpiece.

The PM encouraged Park Hang-seo’s troops to make thorough preparations and try their best to continue harvesting success in the next match.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien also extended congratulations to Park and his Vietnamese side on their newly gained achievement.

In his congratulatory letter, Thien stated that with solidarity and reasonable tactics, the national squad had fought bravely and claimed the triumph in a convincing fashion. He thanked head coach Park Hang-seo, who has inspired Vietnamese football to conquer new peaks of the continental football, as well as other members of the coaching staff and the players for their unceasing efforts.

The minister also expressed his gratitude to Vietnamese fans for always accompanying and reinvigorating the national team.

By surging past Jordan to make the quarterfinals, the Vietnamese squad have received VND6 billion (US$258,000) in bonuses from the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank), the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank), the Vietnam Development Bank (VDB), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the C.T Group.
