Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, who is also Chairman of the National Election Council, members of the council, and leaders of 63 provinces attended the event.
Speaking at the event, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong stressed the importance of the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the next five years. The elections will take place against a backdrop of 30 years of renovation, 5 years implementing the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Political Programme for national construction during the period of transition to socialism (amended, developed in 2011), and 2 years implementing the Constitution 2013.
Nguyen Phu Trong, Party General Secretary said: Together with the success of the 12th National Party Congress, the election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils in the 2016-2021 tenure will be an important political event. This is a chance for people to vote for the National Assembly delegates and People’s Councils. It will also help build, consolidate and perfect a socialist rule-of-law state of the people, by the people and for the people.
He asked party organisations, agencies and other organisations involved to steer the implementation of the 12th National Party Congress Resolution, the socio-economic development tasks for 2016, the 2016-2020 socio-economic development plan, as well as speed up preparation work to make the May election a success.
Speaking at the closing of the event, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the NA Standing Committee, the National Election Council, government, Vietnam Fatherland Front and localities will closely co-ordinate to complete the related work, including encouraging candidates to stand, the establishment of election organisations at a local level, and public awareness-raising activities.
