Since the crisis affecting the TPP, the EVFTA has become a new focus for many sectors, including agriculture. One of the most challenging problems for Vietnam's agriculture is food hygiene and safety in agro, forestry and fishery products. The implementation of these commitments is expected to strongly impact Vietnam's trade of agricultural and forestry products, not only to the EU but also to other international markets. The EU is still Vietnam's second largest trading partner with bilateral trade reaching over 38 billion euros. Economic ties between the two sides have been growing, and are expected to strengthen even further after the EVFTA comes into effect.
