VTV.vn - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc ordered the start of the construction of the My Thuan – Can Thohighway, part of the Eastern cluster of the North – South Highway, in Vinh Long province on January 4.

The highway will start at Km107+363.08 in Tan Hoaward, Vinh Long city and end at Km130+337 in Thuan An commune, Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province.

The project has a total investment of over VND4.8 trillion (US$208.2 million), which is being sourced from public investment with its first phase scheduled for completion in 2023.

The construction of the project is expected to ease the overload on National Highway 1, contributing to promoting economic development and ensuring national defence and security in Mekong Delta provinces.

Upon its completion, the highway, in combination withHo Chi Minh City – Trung Luong and Truong Luong – My Thuan highways and My Thuan 2 Bridge, will form a complete highway system from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho, helping shorten travel times to only two hours from the previous four hours.

PM Phuc lauded the efforts of the Ministry of Transport and localities in their implementation of the project, noting that the project’s transformation from the BOT investment form to public investment will help to reduce the cost burden for the Mekong Delta region as well as reducing costs for agricultural exports.
