VTV.vn - On Saturday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the Ministry of Industry and Trade's proposal which stipulates that Vietnam exports 400,000 tons of rice in April.

He asked the ministry to work with the relevant ministries and departments to ensure that rice exports don't affect national food security. A shortage of rice must not happen in any circumstances, especially in the context of climate change and the Covid-19 epidemic.

The ministry will need to submit a plan to the government before April 25 on how to control the domestic rice market as well as rice exports in case the pandemic lingers on.

The Prime Minister will base his decision for rice exports in May on the developments of the pandemic. In addition, he asked the ministry to minimize the disruption of the rice production chain to protect the legitimate interests of farmers and relevant businesses.
