During a hand-over ceremony for the donation, Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro stated that the memory of Carlo Urbani, an Italian epidemiologist who worked for the World Health Organization and died fighting the SARS infection in Vietnam back in 2003, lives on in the memory of Vietnamese citizens.
Therefore, the shipment of supplies represents a gift that highlights the country’s solidarity with Italy, a supportive act during this difficult time, in addition to being clear evidence of the friendship between the two nations.
