Plastic bag producers to see increased taxes

One of the proposed means is the taxation of plastic bags. The Ministry of Finance has recently proposed taxing plastic bag producers 4 times more in the latest draft amendment to the new environmental protection tax law.

If passed, plastic bags will be subject to the new tax rate of 10 dollars for every kilogram. Currently, Vietnam has one of the lowest tax rates for plastic bag production in the world.

The move aims to reduce the use of plastic bags and limit their production due to their inability to decompose.
