In his career, Le Cong Vinh played 85 matches and scored 51 goals for the Vietnamese national team, all national records. He made the crowning moment for the national team and himself when accomplishing a decisive goal with a header in the final match of AFF Suzuki Cup 2008.
He quit soccer last year and became president of Ho Chi Minh city football club.
With such accomplishments, Le Cong Vinh won the nomination for the category of Personality of the Year. Another sportsman nominated for this category is Olympic gold medal winner, marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh. He won a gold medal in the 10m air pistol category and a silver in 50m pistol at Rio 2016 Summer Olympics.
