The city’s authorities spoke highly of the contributions of overseas Vietnamese community to the development of Ho Chi Minh City. In 2014, overseas remittances sent to Ho Chi Minh City reached nearly 5 billion USD. Vietnamese living abroad have also actively participated in social activities such as building charitable houses, concrete bridges in rural areas and providing scholarships for poor students.
