The exhibition captures an idyllic Hanoi through familiar imagery like the capital's old streets, urban girls, and villages. The paintings reveal the love and nostalgia that the 79-year-old artist feels for his home country after 4 decades abroad.
Though spending half of his life abroad, Minh still remembered Hanoi, with its people, nature and streets. He said these memories nurtured his soul and helped him overcome the loneliness of living far from home. Besides artistic value, the audience may immerse themselves in his love for Hanoi, the city where he was born and raised.
Do Duy Minh was a well-known illustrator, artist, and cartoonist in Vietnam during the 1960s. Since 1980, he has settled down in Canada.
Following his first exhibition entitled "Hope" in 2014, "The Return" is the second solo exhibition in Vietnam by artist Do Duy Minh. The exhibition will last until October 27.
