The flight was jointly organised by Vietnamese authorities and representative agencies in Russia, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and relevant Russian agencies.
The returned citizens included many children under 18 years old, overseas students who don’t have accommodation due to dormitory closures, pregnant women, the elderly, the sick, those stranded while travelling or transiting from other countries, and workers whose visas and employment contracts have expired.
To successfully conduct the flight in the context of strict coronavirus lockdown orders in Russia, the Vietnamese Embassy in the country instructed citizens on performing the necessary procedures and worked with Russian authorities to facilitate the citizens’ travel to the airport in Moscow. In addition, the embassy fielded its officials to the airport to directly support citizens in observing boarding procedures.

With the aim of ensuring the health of citizens and preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam Airlines strictly implemented measures on security, safety, hygiene and epidemiology during the flight. Immediately upon landing at the Van Don International Airport, the passengers on the flight received medical check-ups and were taken to a concentrated quarantine facility in accordance with regulations.
Earlier, Vietnam Airlines transported a number of Russian passengers home on its flight to Moscow on May 12.
On the basis of citizens’ wishes, the quarantine capacity of domestic localities and the evolution of the disease, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, Vietnamese authorities and overseas representative agencies, and Vietnam’s airlines will continue to deploy flights to bring Vietnamese citizens home in the spirit of the Prime Minister’s direction.
