This is the first time that Vietnam’s Permanent Mission at the UN held a National Day celebration at UN Headquarters, with the participation of Vietnamese and international diplomats.
Speaking at the celebration, the Chairman stressed that 2015 is an important year for both Vietnam and the UN as the two entities celebrate their “births.” For Vietnam, September 2, 1945 was the day the late President Ho Chi Minh declared the country’s independence, marking a significant milestone in history.
He also thanked international communities, especially the UN and the Inter-parliamentary Union for supporting Vietnam during its formation and development.
Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung also praised Vietnam - US diplomatic relations. He stressed that normalizing relations in 1995 and establishing a comprehensive partnership in 2013 have opened up a new era of cooperation for the two countries.
