Monash University (Australia) has launched a transformative scholarship program and new academic pathways for students from Vietnam to obtain a world-leading education at the university’s Malaysian campus.

Monash is partnering with Vietnamese social enterprise Know One Teach One (KOTO) to give Vietnamese students facing reduced opportunities a fully-funded KOTO Dream Scholarship to provide a life-changing educational experience.

From this year, Monash University will fund three KOTO graduates’ scholarships to cover their tuition fees, and provide support towards living allowances, return airfares, health cover, and visa costs.

President and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash University Malaysia, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr Adeeba Kamarulzaman, visited Vietnam to help launch the program.

“This scholarship program is an investment in the future of Vietnam, supporting resilient young individuals who are committed to making a tangible social impact in their home communities to study at Monash University,” Dr Kamarulzaman said.

Scholarship recipients are eligible to enrol in undergraduate courses in business, economics, and social sciences, to complement the vocational skills gained from KOTO’s programs.

Two scholarship recipients would undertake their studies at the Monash University Malaysia campus in Subang Jaya, while one would be hosted at one of Monash’s Australian campuses.

Know One Teach One (KOTO) is a pioneering social enterprise in Vietnam that provides vocational training for underprivileged youth. Through its hands-on hospitality training program, KOTO equips students with professional skills, life skills, and the confidence to build a sustainable future.

Monash University has also expanded an existing study pathway that previously allowed Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) students to complete part of their studies in Australia. An expanded agreement will now also give business, commerce, digital media and communication students the option to complete part of their studies at Monash’s Malaysia campus.

The Vice President of DAV, Dr Nguyen Thi Thin, welcomed the deepening of the partnership, which will provide Vietnam’s future leaders with exposure to a vital regional neighbour.

“Malaysia is a close and important partner for Vietnam, with deep economic, cultural and people‑to‑people ties across ASEAN,” she noted. “Providing our students with exposure to Malaysia’s dynamic economy, multicultural society and growing role as a regional business hub will broaden their perspectives and strengthen their practical understanding of how Southeast Asian markets operate.

“Combined with the high-quality education that both our institutes are known for, these experiences will better equip Vietnam’s future diplomats, policymakers and business leaders to contribute meaningfully to regional cooperation and to Vietnam’s long‑term economic and strategic ambitions.”
