Meeting marks 60th anniversary of Vietnam AO/Dioxin disaster

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan speaks at the meeting. (Photo: NDO) - A meeting was held in Hanoi on December 28 to mark the 60th anniversary of Vietnam Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin disaster day (August 10, 1961-2021), under the presence of Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

On the occasion, the fourth Congress honouring AO/dioxin victims was held and Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin were honoured with the third-class Labour Order.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said the “Action for AO victims in Vietnam” movement, which was launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee received the support and attention of people from all social strata, Overseas Vietnamese and international friends, helping victims overcome difficulties to gradually stabilise their lives.

Especially, the Associations of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin at all levels, have operated effectively, making great contributions to the care, support and protection of the legal rights and benefits of AO victims, she added.

The Vice President expressed her admiration and gratitude to outstanding AO victims who made great efforts to overcome harsh circumstances and integrate into the community.

At the event, leaders of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation presented certificates of merit to 14 collectives and 15 individuals, who have gained outstanding achievements in the implementation of the Directive 43-CT/TW on strengthening the Party's leadership in dealing with the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US army, which was issued by the Secretariat of the11th Party Central Committee.

The VFFCC also honoured 15 outstanding collectives and individuals, for their contributions to the “Action for AO/dioxin victims” movement over the past 10 years. In addition, 23 collectives and 159 individuals received the certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.
