VTV.vn - Doctors who accompanied 30 Vietnamese citizens returning from Hubei Province, China, to avoid the spread of new strain of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) have been honoured by the Ministry of Health (MoH).

On February 11, in order to encourage doctors in the fight against the deadly virus, the MoH awarded certificates of merit to four collectives and three individuals of the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology for supporting 30 Vietnamese citizens in returning home safely from China’s Hubei Province.

Earlier, a Vietnam Airlines aircraft carrying the citizens landed at Van Don International Airport in Van Don District, in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh, at 05:04 am on February 10.

The move was made under the instruction of the Prime Minister with the coordination among the Foreign Ministry, the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing (China) and related ministries, agencies and localities.

The citizens, including an eight-month pregnant woman, are in stable health. They will be carried to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases for quarantine and medical monitoring.

The aircraft performing the flight was the one which has previously transported medical supplies presented by Vietnam to China, along with the return of 11 Chinese citizens back to Wuhan.

Deputy Health Minister Do Xuan Tuyen praised the outstanding achievements of individuals and collectives who have fulfilled the task assigned by the Government. He also hailed doctors who have actively treated three patients with Covid-19 to help them recover and discharge from hospital.

The deputy minister suggested that the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases fully prepare all resources and create favourable conditions to receive all Covid-19-infected patients at the hospital, while ensuring medical safety to avoid cross-contamination in the hospital, as well as providing technical transfer to facilities at lower levels to support them in dealing with the Covid-19 epidemic.

Vietnam has recorded 15 Covid-19 infections so far, with six among them having already recovered and discharged from hospital.

According to the MoH’s infectious disease surveillance system, up until 7 am on February 12, the world has recorded 43,104 cases of Covid-19 infection, of which 42,638 cases and 1,016 deaths have been recorded in mainland China.
