Returning this August with the inspiring theme of “The Power of Change”, Take-off will share heartfelt stories affirming that change can begin anywhere and at every level, from individuals and small community to entire regions.
Across Vietnam today, change for the better can be seen everywhere, from new projects and urban landscapes, to revitalized heritage sites that carry the memories of times gone by. Looking back across thousands of years of history, change has always been present. The question is: how can change become a driving force for innovation and creativity? Talking about change also means acknowledging the challenges and difficulties encountered along the way. Yet history proves that only through hardship can success be achieved, transforming obstacles into opportunities and creating new milestones for a new era.
Our guest commentator is Professor, Labor Hero Nguyen Anh Tri - National Assembly Deputy for the 14th and 15th terms. He is also the former Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, and member of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council. Accompanying him are three featured speakers who will share inspiring stories on Take-off’s “runway”.
The first story is the emotional and resilient journey of student Do Thi Hang. Having lost her father before the age of one and lived alone from the age of 13, she did not allow the seemingly insurmountable hardships to defeat her. Instead, they forged her strength and gratitude. While studying, Hang worked part-time at a garment factory where she realized the transformative value of education. Thanks to her determination and will to change her destiny, she earned a four-year university scholarship worth nearly VND1 billion.
Architect Nguyen Bui Vu will share his story of reviving forgotten heritage sites. As many old factories in Hanoi were relocated, numerous buildings of architectural and historical value lay abandoned. However, with creativity and dedication, architect Nguyen Bui Vu breathed new life into these sites, most notably by transforming the old, desolate Trade Union Printing Factory into the vibrant cultural complex Complex 01. This new destination has become a firm favorite with many. His story demonstrates how something seemingly outdated can be modernized and brought to life again while preserving cultural value and creating new spaces for creativity.
During storms and landslides in Dien Bien, images of firefighting and rescue officers using shovels and their bare hands to “cut through mountains” and reach stranded people made a lasting impression. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tuong La of the Fire and Rescue Police of Dien Bien Province, together with his comrades, braved mortal danger. For them, the sacred word “compatriots” was the driving force that gave them courage. Their bravery and devotion provided firm support and ignited hope and faith for local people, inspiring them to sow the seeds of change in their homeland.
