VTV.vn - Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang and 60 other cities and provinces will turn off their lights from 8.30 PM to 9.30 PM tonight, in sync with other countries.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched the Earth Hour campaign 2017 themed "Lights off to turn on the future."

This year's campaign aims to encourage the community to use energy economically and effectively.

The launch ceremony in Hanoi on March 5 was attended by thousands of students and volunteers. More than 1,000 people joined a flash mob performance.

This year marks the 9th time an Earth Hour event has been held in Vietnam. Last year's campaign saved 450,000kw per hour, 3 times higher than in 2009, when Vietnam hosted the first event.

The Earth Hour campaign was first launched in Vietnam in 2009. More than 1,000 businesses and organisations across the country have joined the campaign in a bid to save energy.
