VTV.vn - Vietnam’s northern province of Lao Cai has exported 7.5 million tonnes of pickled asparagus beans to Japan for the first time, according to a local official.

Pickled asparagus beans are bound for the Japanese market.

The beans were grown on a hectare of land in Gia Phu Commune of Bao Thang District and then were harvested and pickled by the Dong Luc Organic Agriculture Cooperative.

The products were later tested to ensure food safety and transported to Hai Phong for shipment to Japan.

Tran Ngoc Que, director of the Dong Luc Cooperative, said growing asparagus beans can help farmers earn up to 180 million VND (7,600 USD) per hectare for each season.

According to Bao Thang Chairman Ngo Minh Que, the export of the first batch of pickled asparagus beans opens up a great opportunity for farmers to take their local agricultural produce to the international market.

In the future, Bao Thang District will continue to expand sustainable agricultural models and implement programmes to support farmers in selling their products.
