VTV.vn - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will pay an official visit to Japan from September 15th to 18th, at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

In the following interview with Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Fukada Hiroshi, we’ll find out more about the significance of this visit.

Anh Phương, VTV Reporter: Thank you for joining our interview. First, what can you say about the significance of the Party General Secretary’s upcoming visit to Japan?

Fukada Hiroshi, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam: Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit will come as the highlight of a series of high-level exchanges. I hope that the Party chief and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold frank discussions on developing bilateral ties.

This year Vietnam celebrates its 70th National Day, and the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will be held in 2016, which will lay out the development path for Vietnam in the next five years.

In light of this, it is important that the leaders of both countries review bilateral ties and decide on a way forward.

The leaders will discuss cooperation in politics, security, economics, and in regional and international forums. I hope that they will achieve concrete results that benefit the future of bilateral ties.

What do you think about the prospects of Vietnam-Japan relations?

I hope that in the coming time, both countries will step up cooperation and become each other’s best partners in the region and the world.

In terms of politics, I hope that our two countries will make a positive impact on regional and global discussions related to maritime security, freedom and safety of navigation, among others.

In terms of economic cooperation, Japan has provided ODA to Vietnam to develop infrastructure and human resources. Japanese investors are also actively contributing to Vietnam’s economic development. As Vietnam integrates more into the regional and global economy, I hope that it will take measures to improve its urban areas; reform state-owned enterprises; develop supporting industries, agriculture, and IT; and strive towards a sustainable economy.

Once again, thank you for the interview.
