The day was marked by a march around Hoan Kiem Lake, one of the most popular destinations in the capital, a contest on road safety, and the destruction of 1,000 poor quality helmets.
Meanwhile, locals can exchange their substandard helmets for qualified ones across 20 major streets as part of the campaign that runs from August 24 to September 25. According to the organisers, promoting safe helmet use could reduce head injury and deaths from accidents, and is therefore a highlight of anti-traffic accident programmes.
