According to their latest report, turnover of Vietnamese aquaculture exports to Japan has increased by 29% within the first 5 months of this year. This means that Japan has overtaken the US and the European Union to become the biggest consumer of Vietnamese aquaculture goods. Experts from VASEP have attributed this movement to the appreciation of the Japanese Yen. This has led to Vietnamese shrimp producers switching to Japan as their target market. Meanwhile, Vietnamese shrimp exports to Japan have decreased sharply due to recent anti-dumping duties. The volume of tra fish exported to Europe has also dropped.
To top it off, total export turnover of Vietnamese aquaculture products has reached 2.7 billion USD within the first 5 months of the year, a 7.5% increase year on year.
