The event, organised by Nikkei, welcomed world leaders and experts to discuss the security and economic challenges facing the region. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the event as part of his 4-day visit to Japan.
The Vietnamese state leader continued to emphasise Asia's rising profile in the global economy. Of 150 Free Trade Agreements, 58% have come from Asia. The region also boasted the largest nominal gross domestic product among the world's continents in 2016, up from third in 2010. Raising concerns over Asia's pressing security issues such as territorial friction or extreme nationalism, the Prime Minister urged "responsible conduct on the basis of equality, mutual respect and the rule of law."
