The industry recently received a boost as it gained a green light from the Australian authorities for exportation.
Bac Giang lychees have recently managed to infiltrate into 3 new markets - the Middle East, Thailand and Canada. This success is attributable to the implementation of a new technology called 'modified atmosphere packaging' (MAP). This helps to reduce the cost of exporting by using sea routes instead of air routes.
The region is currently producing a total volume of 100 thousand tons of lychees. This equals 70% of last year's total produce. Among these, VietGap-certified lychees make up 40 thousand tons, while GlobalGap-certified lychees make up around 1600 tons.
