VTV.vn - The ITU Digital World 2020, a global tech event for governments, corporates and tech SMEs, will be held virtually from October 20 to 22 on a technology platform developed by Vietnam, as announced at a press briefing in Hanoi on September 25.

The annual event, co-organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), will feature the theme of “Building the digital world together.” It is expected to welcome many ministers of ITU member countries, leaders of international organisations, management agencies, and leading organisations and experts on ICT and digital economy.

Addressing the press conference, MIC Deputy Minister Phan Tam said that Vietnam will be the first country to host the event under its new name, ITU Digital World (formally known as the ITU Telecom World), 50 years since its initial inception.

This year, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, MIC Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, authorised by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, has proposed the initiative to virtually hold the ITU Digital World on a Make-in-Vietnam platform developed by the ministry and military-run telecom giant Viettel. This will also be the first time for such a global-level event to be organised in an online form.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Cheminformatics Do Cong Anh, the Vietnam-developed online platform integrates many options so that participants can join in the plenary session, thematic sessions or visit the pavilions. Businesses can choose to design their booths in 2D or 3D forms at a symbolic fee.

The organisers will not restrict the number of participants, and this online platform is expected to accommodate 100,000-200,000 visitors.

During the three-day ITU Digital World, a series of events will be held, including ITU ministerial roundtables, forum sessions associated with the development of a digital world, and a virtual exhibition featuring pavilions of countries and world-leading corporations showcasing innovative products, technologies and applications.

For Vietnam, the co-hosting of the ITU Digital World 2020 is of great significance, contributing to enhancing the country’s international position and affirming itself as one of the rapidly developing and dynamic countries in ICT and an active and responsible ITU member.

In addition, the event will enable domestic ICT firms to foster partnerships with leading technology companies from around the world, while contributing to advertising the image of a dynamic and developing Vietnam that is active and proactive in international integration.
