Currently, there are over 200,000 drug addicts in the country, but only around 3,000 go 3 to 5 years without relapse. Relapse rates remain high, up to 90 percent after two years, partly due to social discrimination. Vietnam is promoting this month as the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control.
Experts have lauded new rehabilitation models such as social re-integration support clubs, voluntary care and consulting teams, and community-based rehabilitation, which have helped prevents thousands of drug users from relapsing.
