Click, filter, post. anyone can be a photographer on Instagram - a smartphone app with around 700,000 million users. Likes and hashtags are the main weapons in the battle for attention. Messages for everyday life, moments captured and displayed like a public journal.
Michael Schulz has been on Instagram since its infancy onto a successful one. His account berlinstagram has nearly half a million followers.
“I have been doing this for 7 years.installed the app 2 weeks after it was released. No one knew then how big the network would become”, Michael Schulz – an Instagram enthusiast – said.
So big that Michael with his keen eye has made living from it. But what type of image and which filters and styles make a snapshot into a liked piece of art? Instagram basically changed the way pictures are shared and defined new dimension of attractiveness and art.
“Instagram has its own language. Formats and photos that work on Instagram don't work on other platforms and vice versa”, Michael Schulz added.
A picture should not be too abstract so that it can be felt immediately. Instagram has changed the art of photography. There is no need for an exhibition or actual viewers going to these events. Everything is based on the number of views online.
