Indian President Ram Nath Kovind begins State visit to Vietnam

VTV.vn - President of India Ram Nath Kovind and his spouse have arrived in Hanoi, starting their State visit to Vietnam from November 18 to 20 at the invitation of President Nguyen Phu Trong.

President Kovind’s entourage includes Anantkumar Hegde, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Heena Gavit and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Members of Parliament; Vijay Thakur Singh, deputy foreign minister; Parvathaneni Harish, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam; Brahat Lal, Joint Secretary to the President; Maj. Gen. CP Cariappa, Military Secretary to the President; Randhir Jaiswal, Social secretary to the President; Nagesh Singh, head of the reception division at the Ministry of External Affairs; and Manish, head of the southern division under the Ministry of External Affairs.

President Ram Nath Kovind was born on October 1, 1945, in Uttar Pradesh State. He holds a bachelor degree in commerce from Kanpur University. He served as general secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Koli Samaj between 1971 and 1975 and in 1981. Kovind was Central Government Advocate in the Delhi High Court from 1977 to 1979, and advanced to the position of union government standing counsel in the Supreme Court between 1977 and 1978. From 1994 to 2006, he was a Rajya Sabha (upper house) MP from the state of Uttar Pradesh and served on various committees, including those on welfare, home affairs, petroleum and natural gas, social justice and empowerment, law, and justice. Kovind was appointed governor of the state of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. Since July 2017, he has been serving as the President of India.
