President Ram Nath Kovind was born on October 1, 1945, in Uttar Pradesh State. He holds a bachelor degree in commerce from Kanpur University. He served as general secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Koli Samaj between 1971 and 1975 and in 1981. Kovind was Central Government Advocate in the Delhi High Court from 1977 to 1979, and advanced to the position of union government standing counsel in the Supreme Court between 1977 and 1978. From 1994 to 2006, he was a Rajya Sabha (upper house) MP from the state of Uttar Pradesh and served on various committees, including those on welfare, home affairs, petroleum and natural gas, social justice and empowerment, law, and justice. Kovind was appointed governor of the state of Bihar from 2015 to 2017. Since July 2017, he has been serving as the President of India.
