According to information from the Indian Embassy on the morning of September 16, under the framework of the Sadbhav (Goodwill) Campaign — which aims to contribute to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the ASEAN region — the Government of India transported emergency relief supplies to Vietnam on September 15 to support communities in several northern provinces and cities that were affected after Typhoon Yagi made landfall.
The shipment, weighing 35 tonnes and valued at 1 millionUSD, consisted of humanitarian aid items from India and was transported to Hanoi via an Indian aircraft on the night of September 15.
The aid included essential items such as water purifiers, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets, water storage tanks, water buckets with faucets, and solar-powered lamps.
The shipment was prepared and sent based on the needs of the affected communities and recommendations from the relevant authorities.
Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, Sandeep Arya, handed over the relief supplies to representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and then they were delivered to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry, as well as to representatives from Tuyen Quang Province.
Ambassador Sandeep Arya also expressed the deep sympathy of the Indian community for those affected by Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam. He further noted that Indian businesses and members of the Indian community in Vietnam have contributed to supporting the affected people and local authorities.
Earlier, on behalf of the government and people of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his condolences to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Indian Foreign Minister Dr S. Jaishankar also extended his condolences to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son regarding the losses and damage caused by the storm.
The Government of India emphasised that the humanitarian assistance to Vietnam is a testament to the long-standing andstrong relationship between the two countries, which is marked by a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
