Hanoians urged to maintain COVID-19 prevention measures

VTV.vn - Hanoi authorities should promote communications campaigns to help local residents continue to strictly implement measures against COVID-19, as assigned by the chairman of the municipal People's Committee.

Speaking at a teleconference by the Hanoi Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control on Monday (April 27), Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung urged for boosting communications on three compulsory contents, including wearing face masks when out from home, practicing antiseptic hand washing regularly, and keeping a safe distance when traveling in the community.

Regarding the elaboration of detailed guidelines for the implementation of the Prime Minister's Directive 19 on continued measures against COVID-19, the capital city will develop specific operating hour schemes for essential businesses and stores to avoid crowding, Chung said, adding that Hanoi is also seeking comments on adjusting the opening hours for non-essential services, encouraging them to wait until after 9 am to open their stores.

With regards to the date for local students to return to school, Hanoi People's Committee will make a decision on this issue during its next meeting, set for Wednesday afternoon. It is expected that universities, vocational schools, high schools and secondary schools in the city will reopen from May 4, while the remaining facilities will continue to be set under review.

* On the same day, Ministry of Defence hosted a teleconference to evaluate the epidemic prevention and control work in the country as well as the impact of COVID-19 on military-defence tasks.

Praising the efforts of the concerned military units in the COVID-19 fight, Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Minister of National Defence, asked the units to stay alert and well implement the instructions from the relevant authorities on disease prevention and control, while fulfilling their military and defence tasks in 2020 amid the possibility of a prolonged and complicated COVID-19 fight.

* On April 27, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee continued to receive support in the form of cash donations, worth over VND4 billion, from relevant units towards Vietnam’s fight against COVID-19.

Also on Monday, the Vietnam Young Physicians’ Association in coordination with relevant units presented 3,000 face masks, 14,000 medical gloves and 10 UV face mask disinfection chambers worth over VND300 million to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases, National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion, National Lung Hospital and National Institute of Hygiene And Epidemiology.

The activity took place within the framework of the programme "Joining hands to prevent and combat COVID-19 – For a healthy Vietnam" run by the association nationwide.
