Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in a televised statement that the deadly fires were an unspeakable tragedy. More than 600 firefighters were mobilized to tackle the blaze as local authorities announced they are seeking international assistance.
There was no official indication as to how many people might be missing, and some took to social media and Greek television stations with appeals for information on their loved ones.
