A tally from the US-based Johns Hopkins University shows the number of reported cases worldwide has roughly doubled since April 2, while the global death toll stands at 119,483. In the U.S., over 23,000 deaths have been reported, and total cases have surpassed 581,679, making it the largest number of both coronavirus fatalities and infections so far.
Spain has the second highest number of cases in the world, recording nearly 170,000 cases with more than 17,000 deaths. The International Monetary Fund on Monday announced immediate debt relief for 25 poor countries to help them free up funds to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
