The development of a reading culture is a crucial aspect of the national strategy for lifelong learning. The Gala "Good Books: Read and Change", organized by the Academic Council of Vietnam Television (VTV), aims to raise the value of reading culture, strive for better values, make efforts to change and improve perspectives on book creation, and make books more appealing to readers.
In the current context, books serve not only as a source of knowledge, but also as a bridge connecting souls, disseminating knowledge and cultural spirit. The Gala "Good Books: Read and Change" serves as a call for everyone to accept and change through books. In this era of media and technological development, books are constantly updated and rapidly changing in both genre and form to keep up with trends, hence the need for a changing reading culture. The stories of the guests featured in the "Good Books: Read and Change" program will help the audience better understand the benefits of reading books in today's age.
To convey the program's message, the team chose images of children studying under kerosene lamps, which symbolizes that books remain the crystallization of knowledge and intellect in our time. Reading books is a means of understanding, changing perspectives, and transforming the lives of individuals. In addition to Vietnamese literary elements, the production crew also selected international works such as Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling" to offer a fresh perspective on approaching books through multimedia and various forms.
The "Good Books: Read and Change" will feature distinguished guests, including musician and singer Cao Bá Hưng (the 7th generation descendant of Cao Bá Quát), Mr. Nguyễn Nguyên - Director of the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution, Ministry of Information and Communication, and educational expert and translator Tống Liên Anh... These guests will engage in discussions and share insights on the changes in books and reading culture in Vietnam in recent times, as well as the innovative role of books for individuals and society. Along with these discussions, there will be stories and experiences to collectively review, evaluate, and propose plans and strategies for change to build and develop the reading culture community.
A highlight of the program is the recitation of "Kiều" by Cao Bá Hưng, which offers the audience a new perspective on reading and the application of books in art. This emphasizes that books are not only a source of knowledge, but also an endless stream of inspiration for creativity, shaping lifestyles, and building the future.
The interactive session with the young audience is another highlight of the program, helping the audience gain authentic insights into the reading habits of today's younger generation, the diversity of book genres, and the positive changes that books bring.
From writing on bamboo slips, turtle shells, bamboo cards, and scroll paper to modern printing technology, there has been a revolution in book reproduction and distribution. Digital technology has given rise to beautifully crafted books and the multimedia reading style. But no matter the era or technology, one thing remains certain: "Books will help us change, become newer, better and more human."
The gala "Good Books: Read and Change" sends messages about the spirit of lifelong learning, and celebrates and discusses the significant role of books. It is an opportunity for each individual to set goals and make positive changes in the coming New Year.
The gala "Good Books: Read and Change" will be broadcast on Sunday, December 31 at 21:05 on VTV2.
